Audio Interviews: You as the Expert
Many people draw a blank when they start to tackle product creation. Ebooks have been the standard fodder for digital sales online for so long that marketers think they have to write a book (or find the money to get someone to write it for them) in order to have their own product to sell. If you’re not a writer or are working on a tight budget, you feel you’ve hit a brick wall before you’ve even got started.
While ebooks still have a place in digital sales, audio and video are becoming more popular and have a higher perceived value.
Again, this can seem quite daunting. How do you start creating an audio product?
One of the simplest methods is by interviewing an expert…or simpler still, if you ARE the expert, then find someone to interview you. You don’t even need to pay a professional – a friend or relative could do it for you, if you can find someone willing.
A great method of recording interviews is using Skype (you will need a compatible recording program to go with it, such as Pamela). This is done computer to computer through VOIP technology, and your spend-out will be for decent Skype headsets and the recording program (although only one of you needs this). You can record computer to normal phone line, but you will need SkypeOut for that:
Of course, there are also offline methods you can use – for example, both calling into a teleseminar line (for a small fee the teleseminar company will usually record this for you). Or, you can use an mp3 player/recorder and sit somewhere quiet…it doesn’t have to be incredibly high-tech, although decent microphones will help with the quality.
Plan out your interview beforehand and then just sit down and record it. If you f**k up at any point it’s quite easy to edit out the rubbish in a free program like Audacity, save (or export) as an mp3 and pop it on your site.
This interview can be used as lead generation (i.e. to get folks to give you their contact details) or as all or part of a paid product. You can add to the package by creating a pdf transcript of the interview for those who prefer reading materials or who want to follow along with the audio and make notes.
If YOU are the expert, this is the perfect way to let people know about it and to give value to your prospects and/or customers.
